A study published in the journal Circulation has reviewed available clinical studies assessed the relationship between smoking and risk of cardiovascular events or death in patients with diabetes. The review found that active smoking is associated with a significantly increased risk of both cardiovascular events and death in patients with diabetes. The study revealed that quitting smoking reduced the risk when compared with those who were current smokers.
